Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are one of the most common cosmetic dental procedures. Veneers are custom made thin shells of porcelain that are chemically bonded to each tooth. Once bonded to the tooth, they are very strong. They are designed to cover the front side of tooth to correct stained, chipped, decayed or crooked teeth. Porcelain veneers look completely natural and are virtually impossible to detect. They are sometimes used as “instant orthodontics” for a fast, cost effective alternative to braces.
Teeth Whitening: What are my options?
This procedure is usually performed in one visit. The entire visit takes about 90 minutes and you will see results immediately. A rubber barrier will be applied first to protect your gums. The dentist or dental assistant will apply whitening gel to the surface of your teeth. A special light will be used to enhance the action of the whitening agent. We use the ZOOM brand whitening system in our office.
This system uses custom made trays and whitening gel. The gel is placed in the tray which is placed over your teeth. As the peroxide in the gel breaks down, the teeth will whiten. We recommend wearing the trays a few hours per day of treatment. At home professional whitening generally takes 10 – 14 days, although you may see results in as little as three to five days. Today, most whitening gels contain ingredients that reduce any sensitivity from the whitening procedure.
These are prepackaged whitening trays with gel for both the upper and lower arches of teeth. Each package may have four to ten sets of trays depending on the amount of stain in the teeth. The trays are worn for 30 minutes a day and then discarded. We use the Opalescence Go system in our office.
